Agnes Jebet Ngetich exhausted the synonyms of 'pulverize' by achieving a 10k world record in Valencia with a time almost from the future. The Kenyan athlete not only broke the previous mark (29:14) but also established the new world record in figures that will be difficult to approach. Agnes Jebet Ngetich stopped the clock in the 10K Ibercaja Valencia in 28:46 with a performance that made one doubt whether she would be able to maintain the pace - she finished at an average of 2:52 per kilometer. Evidently, Ngetich stopped the timer at 14:13 (official) during the 5K, which equals the world record for that distance. These 'marcones', on a day that was not ideal in terms of weather (some wind and more heat than usual on these dates) illuminated a 10K in which Jacob Kiplimo won with 26:53 - fifth best mark of all time - who ran the second half of the test alone.
"I'm impressed, I didn't expect it," explained the Kenyan athlete after crossing the finish line. "I never thought I would be able to go under 29 minutes, in fact I was thinking about 29:14 [the previous world record] as a goal," he confessed. To understand the magnitude of the race that took place in Valencia, it is enough to mention that the Kenyan Achol (28:57) also dropped below 29 minutes and reduced the world record by 16 seconds. And it was only worth it to be second.

La atleta keniana no solo bajo la anterior marca (29:14) sino que estableció la nueva plusmarca mundial en unos guarismos a los que será difícil acercarse. Agnes Jebet Ngetich paró el cronómetro en el 10K Ibercaja Valencia en 28:46 con una exhibición que hizo dudar si sería capaz de mantener el ritmo -acabó a una media de 2:52 el kilómetro-. Evidentemente, Ngetich en el paso del 5K paró el cronómetro en 14:13 (oficial), que iguala el récord del mundo en esa distancia. Estos 'marcones', en un día que no era idóneo en lo climatológico (algo de viento y más calor del habitual en estas fechas) alumbraron un 10K en el que se impuso Jacob Kiplimo con 26:53 -quinta mejor marca de todos los tiempos- que corrió en solitario la segunda mitad de la prueba.
"Estoy impresionada, no lo esperaba", explicaba la atleta keniana tras cruzar la meta. "Jamás pensé que iba a poder bajar de 29 minutos, de hecho pensaba en el 29:14 [el récord del mundo anterior] como objetivo", confesaba. Para entender la magnitud de la carrera que se vivió en Valencia basta mencionar que la también keniana Achol (28:57), también bajó de 29 minutos y redujo el récord del mundo en 16 segundos. Y solo le valió para ser segunda.
